Founder & President
Dr. Gajanan Dange (b. 1970), is a social researcher, author, and a key figure in leadership development training in India. A veterinary doctor by education, he has dedicated his life to the development of the rural and Janjati (tribal) areas. He is the Founder and President of YOJAK, which promotes Bharatiya Developmental Philosophy (Bharatiya Vikas Chintan) pertaining to agriculture. Building on this foundation, he is one of the country’s leading thinkers on creating livelihoods in rural and tribal areas through natural resource-based initiatives.
Dr. Dange served as a member of the Rajiv Gandhi Science & Technology Commission, Maharashtra State. He is a member of the National Rural Livelihood Promotion Society (NRLPS), under the National Rural Livelihood Mission, Ministry of Rural Development, (GoI). Additionally, he assumed the role of National Coordinator for the Civil 20 LiFE Working Group during India’s Chairmanship of the G20 countries in 2023.

Dr. Dange’s Vision
Known for his passion for farming, and his concern for farmers and the environment, Dr. Dange has been instrumental in the establishment and development of KVK (Krishi Vigyan Kendra), Nandurbar, Maharashtra, (an entity of ICAR – Indian Council of Agricultural Research, Government of India). He has conducted various experiments and initiated numerous projects at the Kendra, which have been recognized nationally.
He has guided and headed numerous research-based development solution projects for rural development. He has experimented with new forms of social systems where communities can take the lead in development activities. Under his guidance, many progressive farmers have gained valuable insights into their livelihoods and have received numerous national awards. With his direction, the Khandbara Parisar Vikas Yojana of Nandurbar district has gained both national and international recognition.
He has played a crucial role in the successful implementation of projects in collaboration with leading institutions such as NABARD, ICAR, DST, UNDP-SGP, and the World Bank.
Dr. Dange has provided valuable insights into designing various government schemes for policy-making at both the national and state levels, which have greatly benefited common farmers.
He has served as a member of the sub-committee for agriculture, forests, and animal husbandry established by the Kelkar Committee for the balanced development of Maharashtra. Additionally, he has played a significant role in the Janjati Niti Drushti Path, 2020 (Tribal Policy Vision, 2020) formulated under the leadership of the Akhil Bharatiya Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram of India.
He is closely associated with grassroots organizations and research institutions across the country. He has systematically studied development-related issues in various Indian villages. In response to these challenges, he has done an admirable job by establishing a platform for progressive farmers, social organizations, and administrative representatives. Acknowledging the significance of traditional knowledge in development processes, he has actively contributed to the documenting and practical application of the traditional knowledge creation process. He has studied in depth the current situation concerning the development of Indian tribal areas. He focused his research on problems created due to developmental policies, the thought processes behind them, and the possible sustainable solutions to this. It is his inspiration that has led to the initiation of a collaborative study process in 36 tribal areas. He firmly believes in Bharatiya Developmental Philosophy and has implemented numerous experiments based on this philosophy, blending ancient Indian wisdom with modern technology.
Understanding India’s development, natural resources, traditions, people and their knowledge, and modern science, he recognized the necessity for leadership to drive the development process at the grassroots level. Realizing that we need Bharatiya philosophy-based development, he took the lead in the establishment of YOJAK in 2012.
Dange ji established Yojak to cultivate leadership qualities among the youth in rural tribal areas. Today, Yojak collaborates with local voluntary organizations, social leaders, and entities operating in tribal regions across 11 states. Yojak, together with its partner organizations, follows the path of Bharatiya Developmental Philosophy, as shown by Mahatma Gandhi, Acharya Vinoba Bhave, Rashtra Sant Tukdoji Maharaj, and Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay.
Dange ji has significantly contributed to the establishment of the national-level organization “Akshay Krishi Parivar,” created to collaborate on social and governmental policies based on the Bharatiya Developmental Philosophy for agriculture in India. This initiative involves ongoing joint efforts with Niti Aayog to develop specialized programs for traditional Indian agriculture among marginal farmers.
The experiments and studies conducted by Dange ji hold a unique significance in the realm of Indian cattle breeding. Under his guidance, efforts to promote a special cow breed known as “Gavalav” are underway in Wardha district through the collaboration of cow rearers, veterinary scientists, and social service organizations. Local residents have established a trust dedicated to this cause.
The process of Biodiversity documentation is underway at various locations across India within the framework of The Biological Diversity Act, 2002. This is a highly scientific endeavor. Dange ji conducted numerous experiments in Nandurbar to explore ways of engaging local communities in this process. He started the Biodiversity and Agriculture Technology Festival in KVK Nandurbar, which was later upscaled and has now been implemented by more than 700 KVKs in India. Based on these experiments and blending traditions of Indian festivals with scientific inquiry, he initiated the “Vana Sabji Utsav” (Festival of Wild Vegetables), “Beej Pujan Utsav” (Festival of Indigenous Seeds), and “Van Pujan Utsav” (Festival of Forests). Bringing together the country’s love for festivities and the complex process of documentation, he established a novel approach to community involvement. This effort led to the documentation of knowledge about forest vegetables among tribal women in Satpuda, Nandurbar, as well as information about traditional crops in the region. Today, social workers are using this method to document natural resources across various states in India.
